Gas Escapes Services and Repair
Repairs
Though gas leaks are common, they can be dangerous and need to be reported as soon as possible. Worst case scenario, an ignored gas leak can be fatal to those in the space as the natural gas displaces oxygen. If a property is left unoccupied for a period of time this can eventually lead to a potential fire or explosion. Never ignore a gas leak.
Carbon monoxide gas escape does not have any smell or taste and can be found in fumes produced by ovens and grills. It can build up quickly in tightly sealed or closed spaces and can make you sick, and toxic levels can be fatal. PlumbingForce offers a 1-hour emergency response if you suspect you have a carbon monoxide gas leak.
PlumbingForce responds within 4 hours which is imperative as you should ideally not waste any time before repairing the gas leak. Our gas safety engineers all hold a valid Gas Certification to ensure the leak is handled properly and promptly. Pricing starts at £99+VAT*.
*Repairs start from £99+VAT for the first hour before half-hourly rates are charged. If extensive repairs or replacements are needed, we’ll provide a fixed quote for the remaining work.
Servicing
Your gas appliances should be checked regularly. Having your gas serviced once a year is the best practice for ensuring uninterrupted safety and functionality.
Gas appliances should be serviced annually as stipulated by the HSE and Manufacturers’ guidelines. If you are currently renting it is the responsibility of the landlord to ensure this is carried out as legally required.
Installation
Our gas engineers are certified and will complete same day installations that ensure the Gas Escape has been repaired. Carbon monoxide detectors are not a replacement for proper gas installations. Proper gas installation should include a final inspection to ensure that it is functioning safely and effectively.
*Installations start from £99+VAT for the first hour before half-hourly rates are charged

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the signs of a gas leak or gas escaping?
Seek professional help to contend with a gas leak if you notice any of the following:
- A putrid, sulphuric smell, like rotten eggs. This smell is added to ensure gas leaks are detectable via smell alone. The stronger the smell, the worse the gas leak usually is.
- Bubbles in unnatural places. If the puddles outside or any standing water is producing bubbles it could be a sign of leakage under the ground.
- Hissing noises. If there is a leak present a hissing sound will be there even if the source is turned off.
- Dying plants (indoors and outdoors). If you have been giving adequate attention to your house plants and they begin to wilt and die it could be an indication of a gas leak. The presence of gas means plant roots cannot absorb adequate oxygen and so begin to wilt, turn yellow and die.
- Inexplicably high gas meter readings. This is made much easier to track with a Smart Meter.
- Any physical signs of natural gas poisoning:
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Fatigue
- Nausea and vomiting
- Loss of concentration
- Memory fog
- Irregular breathing
What should I do if I smell gas?
If you smell gas, do the following as quickly as possible:
- Immediately turn off the gas via the isolation valve on the meter.
- Open all windows and doors
- Do not turn on or off any switches
- Vacate the property
- Call the gas emergency service on 0800 111 999. The gas emergency service will come and make the property safe but won’t carry out repairs
- PlumbingForce will attend to and carry out the repairs
How long does it take to repair a gas escape?
The amount of time it takes to repair a gas escape is dependent on the nature and extent of the repairs required by each individual repair job. PlumbingForce will be on-site to respond to the call within a maximum of a four-hour window. We can also attend within 1 hour* if the nature of the leak is an emergency.
The initial cause of the gas escape can also influence the time the service takes as it usually indicates the extent of the damage. The most common causes of gas escapes are:
- Corrosion
- Natural wear and tear
- Lack of protection
- Accidental damage
- Fitting/fixture failure
- Uncleaned pipework
Whatever the issue may be, our gas safety engineers will ensure that the gas escape repair is fulfilled and the space is safe.
What factors could affect the gas escape cost?
- Materials required to complete the repair
- Extent of labour required
- The size of the gas installation
- The number of appliances that require installation and maintenance
- The location of the initial fault
